Maya is a very innocent, cutesy character, and we do not get to know much of her until the fourth and fifth season of Degrassi. She is not wheelchair bound in real life, but on the show she has Spina Bifida. She is one of Caitlin's best friends in the show, and in real life.

She had no real part until the 4th and 5th season, when she comes out of the background scenes to get actual lines in the script. As well Caitlin slowly breaks away from Melanie, Kathleen, and Diana, and becomes very close to Maya. Through the years of Degrassi the group remains close, as they talk in class, get together outside of school, and hang out in school together, like a clique.
